Had a lovely ten days in the Gambia with Yankuba. He certainly knows his birds and where to find them. He also put together a tour for us to keep my non-birding family happy which was much appreciated. His customer service both before and during the trip is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 10-day tour with Yankuba in March 2026. His knowledge of the local birds and where to find them is truly impressive, enabling us to locate all of my target species. Particular highlights were exceptional views of Egyptian plover, along with Pel's fishing owl, Savile's bustard and multiple sightings of African finfoot. Yankuba was a pleasure to deal with when organising the tour, providing helpful advice on timings and locations, and implementing his knowledge in devising a practical itinerary which covered a fascinating array of habitats and species. I would thoroughly recommend joining Yankuba for a tour if you wish to see the best of the region's avifauna.

We are four birdwatching friends from Sweden that found Gambia Birding Tours and Yankuba Jammeh while looking for a tour operator that could guide us to the best birding places in these two countries. The offer we got was very attractive, flexible and affordable. Yankuba is an excellent birdguide that put in all his effort in our quest to see as many birdspecies as possible in those two weeks. The result was 285 species of birds, many of them with excellent views and photo opportunities. We recommend this trip.

Just back from an unforgettable first trip to Africa. We only had a week for my sons half term but Yankuba planned a bespoke coast and inland trip, finding 270 species, including close up views of targets like Bronze Winged Courser, Goliath Heron, Martial Eagle, Ground Hornbill, plus hippo, crocs, nile monitor , monkeys and baboons. What a country. Recommended

Just had 3 great days with Yankuba at the coast of Gambia. Seen so many beautifull birds and made great pictures. Yankuba knows all the birds and where to find them. Would definitely recommend!

I have just come back to the UK after a fantastic 10 day birding tour - and i cannot thank Yankuba enough for his professionalism in the field and his friendly personality. He always tries his hardest to put you on incredible wildlife in which his track record was amazing. Whilst making you feel safe, well hydrated and well fed. A massive thank you to his very freindly and approachable driver Abdoulie of whom we had lots of laughs with on our trip through the gambia. Massive thanks to Yankuba for a fantastic 12 day bird photography trip in early November. More than 220 species seen and well over 100 photographed well, thanks to Yankuba’s excellent knowledge of sites and outstanding ability to spot birds. Being a photographer himself Yankuba had a good appreciation of our requirements and went the extra mile to deliver a good experience, even stretching the trip by an extra half day due to our late flight. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending to other photographers. Excellent value compared to Europe. Incorporating a number of boat trips and hides, which all provided good opportunities. A big thanks as well to our driver Aliou.

Yankuba certainly knows birds and we had a fantastic three days with him. He is so friendly and knowledgeable and goes out of his way for you to see the birds. If you have target birds he tries to accomodate.
Would 100% recommend.

What an unbelievable experience. Yankuba is simply the finest birder ive ever had the privilege to meet. His ability to find birds is unbelievable. I asked him if he can smell them... honestly...superb. a lovely man with great customer service and a real talent. Recommended without reservation. I will definitely be seeing him again. Legend!

This is a great bird-guiding company! My wife was in The Gambia to work on a Rotary International project so we chose to bird from our home hotel in Banjul. I chose Gambia Birding Tours based in large part on the website: I was not disappointed. We spent 3 full days with Jammeh Yankuba and we were totally impressed. Not only is Jammeh an expert birder and photographer, he is a thoughtful guide, making sure we could see the birds he spotted and that I got great photos. When needed, he would play the bird songs to attract curious birds. We really enjoyed the canoe trip in the mangroves: he patiently followed a gorgeous Malachite Kingfisher until it posed in perfect range of my lens. In our 3 days we saw a great range of habitat and bird species; I counted at least 60 new life birds. We have birded in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Argentina and the birding with Gambia Birding Tours is clearly in the league of those birding tours. I highly recommend them!
