DAY 1: ARRIVAL
Arrival at the Banjul International Airport, where you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.

DAY 2: FULL DAY BRUFUT FOREST AND TANJI BIRD RESERVE
After breakfast, we head to the coastal forest of Brufuut and Tanji Bird Reserve, including the beach and lagoon, for a full-day exploration. Starting at the scrub and woodland at Tanji Bird Reserve and later to the lagoons and marshes, we should find a plethora of shorebirds and waders such as Caspian tern, Kelp gull, Royal terns, and many Palearctic migrant waders. The scrub and wooded areas also hold Vieilots barbet, Yellow Crowned Gonolek, Cardinal Woodpecker, Bearded Barbet, Striped Kingfisher, Red Necked Falcon, Four Banded Sand Grouse, Yellow Fronted Tinker Bird, Red Billed Hornbill, Pied Winged Swallow, Red Chested Swallow, Palm Nut Vulture, and African Grey Hornbill. After lunch we’ll spend the afternoon birding at the Brufut forest, a remnant ancient forest that provides us with an impressive list that includes Long Tailed Nightjar, Snowy Crowned Robin Chat, Green Turaco, Violet Turaco, Yellow-breasted Apalis, African Pygmy Kingfisher, Greater Honey Guide, Buff Spotted Woodpecker, African Pied Hornbill, Lavender Waxbill, Village Weaver, Klaa’s Cuckoo, Orange-breasted Kingfisher, and Splendid Sunbird. We should expect to see Fanti saw wing, Swallow Tailed Bee Eater, and Grey Plantain Eater. Overnight: Coastal Hotel/Lodge

DAY 3: FULL DAY, BIRDING AT KOTU CREEK, CYCLE TRACK, AND FAJARA GOLF COURSE
Today, we’ll have a full day to cover the fantastic Kotu Creek and adjoining rice fields, cycle track, and Fajara Golf Course, plus a relaxing canoe ride along the Kotu Creek. There are many exciting birds to see here, particularly waders and water birds such as various herons, egrets, sacred ibis, African spoonbill, greater Painted Snipe, African jacana, and a selection of kingfishers, including giant, blue-breasted, malachite, pied, and woodland kingfishers. Other notable species expected here include Oriole Warbler, Northern Crombec, Golden Tailed Woodpecker, Grey Woodpecker, Pearl Spotted Owlet, Long Tailed Glossy Starling, Variable Sunbird, Blue Bellied Roller, and Broad Billed Roller. Senegal Wattle Lapwing, Northern Buff Back Shrike, African Harrier Hawk, Red Billed Fire finch, Brown Babbler, White Crowned Robin Chat, and a host of others. Overnight: coastal hotel/lodge

DAY 4: TRAVEL TO THE UPCOUNTRY/NIGHT AT MORGAN KUNDA LODGE
After breakfast, we’ll set for a journey inland, to the north bank of the Gambia river, with plenty of opportunities for birding en route at Farasutu Forest, Bonto Forest, Kampanti Rice Fields, Farmlands, and wetland along the north bank. Many exciting species await us, including the Green Headed Sunbird, Greyish Eagle Owl, Singing Cisticola, African Green Pigeon, Black Crowned Tchagra, Spotted Honey Guide, Grey Headed Bristlebill, Violet Turaco, African Paradise Flycatcher, Little Greenbul, Verreaux’s Eagle Owl, African Wood Owl, African Goshawk, Brown Necked Parrot, White Faced Scops Owl, and Orange Cheeked Waxbill. Other specialties we hope to encounter include Grasshopper Buzzard, Dark Chanting Goshawk, Rufous Crowned Roller, Senegal Eremomela, Bateleur Eagle, Brown Snake Eagle, Shikra, African Golden Oriole, Cutthroat Finch, Temminck’s Courser, Beaudouin’s Snake Eagle, and Abyssinian Roller. Overnight: Morgan Kunda Lodge.

DAY 5: TRAVEL ACROSS THE NORTH BANK OF THE GAMBIA RIVER/NIGHT AT BANSANG RIVERSIDE LODGE
Today, we move eastwards. Traversing across the semi-arid north bank, stopping and exploring a mix of wetland habitats, grassland, farms, and sand quarry of Wassu, and our focus is to find one of the top targets of the tour, the stunning Egyptian Plover, alongside Green Winged Pythlia, Savile’s Bustard, Spotted Thick Knee, Rufous Scrub Robin, Sahel Paradise Whydah, Chestnut Backed Sparrow Lark, Northern Ant Eater Chat, Speckle Fronted Weaver, Red Rumped Swallow, Martial Eagle, African Hawk Eagle, Senegal, Thick Knee, Black Crowned Crane, Wolly Necked Stork, Black Headed Weaver, Black Rumped Waxbill, Red throated Bee Eater, Little Green Bee Eater, and host of others. Overnight: Bansang Riverside Lodge.

DAY 6: TRAVEL TO SOUTHEAST SENEGAL, BIRDING EN ROUTE TO WASSADOU CAMP
After an early breakfast, we head to cross the frontier to Southeast Senegal, where we’ll spend a few days to experience this fascinating corner of Senegal. Traveling and birding en route to Wassadou, we hope to encounter a wide variety of species, including the White Crested Helmet Shrike, Long Crested Hawk Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Senegal Batis, White Headed Vulture, Ruppel’s Griffon Vulture, Pygmy Sunbird, Yellow White Eye, Fork Tailed Drongo, Grasshopper Buzzard, Black Headed Lapwing, Bronze Manikin, White Rumped Seedeater, Green Wood hoopoe, Hooded Vulture, and plenty other exotic species. After arrival and cheek-in at Wassadou camp, we take an afternoon boat trip down the river Gambia to look for Grey Headed Kingfisher, Shining Blue Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle, African Blue Flycatcher, Western Banded Snake Eagle, African Finfoot, Red-Throated Bee Eater, and African Pied Wagtail. White Crowned Lapwing and a flock of Northern Carmine Bee Eaters. Overnight: Wassadou Camp.

 DAY 7: SAFARI DRIVE, BIRDING, AND OVERNIGHT AT SIMENTI CAMP-NIOKOLOKOBA NATIONAL PARK
This morning, after breakfast, we head out to Niolokoba National Park for a couple of hours of safari driving. Here we have a chance to see some African mammals, including the rare Roan Antelope, Derby Eland, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Hartebeest, and Ori Antelope, as well as other Antelope species. Other animals to look out for include the warthog, Guinea baboon, Western Red Colobus Monkey, Callithrix’s Monkey, and if we are lucky, Lion and Leopard. Possible bird species include Guinea Helmet Fowl, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Bar-breasted Firefinch, Saddle-bellied Stork Walhlberg’s Eagle, Bateleur Eagle, and Martial Eagle. After lunch, we’ll be birding the surroundings of Simenti Camp, and possibilities include Stone Partridge, Double Spurred Francolin, Northern Carmine Bee Eater, Striped Kingfisher, White Shouldered Black Tit, Grey-headed Bush Shrike, Scarlet Chested Sunbird, Chestnut Crowned Sparrow Weaver, Bru Bru, Red Winged Pytlilia, Greater Blue-Eared Starling, and host of other enticing species. Overnight: Simenti Camp

DAY 8-9: TRAVEL TO KEDOGOU AND DINDEFELLO WATERFALL NATURE RESERVE
We have an early breakfast and head out for a drive to Kedougou and Dindefello waterfalls close to the southern border with Guinea to stay for two nights. During our time at Kedugou, we’ll dedicate a day to exploring the Kedougou hills and Dindefelo waterfalls to look for several localized species, such as Mali Firefinch, Neuman’s Starling, Narina Trogon, and Wilcock’s Honeyguide. Dyboski Twinspot, Mocking Cliff Chat, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Black-Faced Fire finch, Dorst’s Cisticola. Violet Turaco, Familiar Chat, Gosling’s Bunting, Fox Kestrel, Green Headed Sunbird, Yellow Bellied Hyliota, Western Violet Backed Sunbird, Sun Lark, White Shouldered Black Tit, African Paradise Flycatcher, African Blue Flycatcher, Rock Martin, Giant Kingfisher, and many other enticing species. Overnight, Kedougou.

DAY 10: RETURN TO WASSASOU CAMP, BIRDING EN ROUTE
Traveling back to Wassadou Camp, we have time to stop at various birding areas and arrive at Wassadou, then spend the afternoon in the woodlands and scrubs in the vicinity of the camp, looking for Grey Headed Bush Shrike, African White Yellow Eye, Green Wood Hoopoe, Yellow Billed Shrike, Bar-Baked Firefinch, Little Bee Eater, Beautiful Sunbird, and many more. Overnight: Wassadou Camp.

DAY 11: WASSADOU TO KUDANG, GAMBIA
Our final morning in Senegal will see us take a river cruise before breakfast. Exploring the upper stream of the Gambia River, we target gems such as the Adamawa Turtle Dove, Blue Breasted Kingfisher, Spur-Winged Lapwing Wolly Necked Stork, African Finfoot, Egyptian Plover, Shikra Malachite Kingfisher, Swamp Flycatcher, and the very elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl. We’ll depart to the Gambia after breakfast and spend most part of the day traveling and birding and arrive in the afternoon in Kakuba Hotel, after checking in we visit the nearby Konungko Wetland, a vast reed beds which is bordered by varied woodlands and farms are home to wide range including flocks of White Faced Whistling Duck, Knob Billed Duck, Kitlitz’s Plover, Dabchicks, African Pygmy Goose, Ruff, Spur Winged Goose, Reed Warbler, Greater Painted Snipe, Gull Billed Tern, various Egrets, Herons and waders, other possible species includes little Green Bee Eater, Grey Backed camaroptera, Abyssinian Roller, African Grey Hornbill, Northern Carmine Bee Eater, Blue Cheeked Bee Eater, Pygmy Sunbird, and Lesser Blue Eared Starling, Overnight: Kakuba Hotel.

DAY 12: KUDANG TO TENDABA CAMP-BIRDING EN ROUTE
Today, after a delicious breakfast, we will visit the Dalaba Wetland, where we have another chance to see the African Pygmy Goose and Knob Billed Goose, plus species such as Tawny Flanked Prinia, Splendid Glossy Starling, Scarcet Chested Sunbird, Red Throated Bee Eater, Common Whitethroat, Fine Spotted Woodpecker, Senegal Thick Knee, White Shouldered Buffalo Weaver, Northern Crombec, Brown Snake Eagle, Martial Eagle, Little Swift, African Jacana, Pied Kingfisher, Pin Tailed Whydah, and a lot more. We’ll wrap up the day at Wurakang Bush Track, where an impressive list of enticing species awaits, species such as the Yellow Penduline Tit, Brown Backed Woodpecker, White Fronted Black Chat, White Crested Helmet Shrike, Chestnut Crowned Sparrow Weaver, Whistling Cisticola, Singing Cisticola, and White Shouldered Black Tit, among others. Overnight: Tendaba Camp.

DAY 13: TENDABA TO THE COAST
Our final day inland, we’ll drive through the semi-deciduous woodland of Bateling to look for a whole host of species, including Striped Kingfisher, Black Scimitar Bill, Four-Banded Sandgrouse, Grasshopper Buzzard, Dark Chanting Goshawk, African Golden Oriole, Chestnut-Backed Sparrow Lark, Namaqua Dove, Temminck’s Courser, Black Headed Lapwing, Village Indigo Bird, White Rumped Seedeater, and Sahel Bush Sparrow, amongst others. We’ll also keep an eye for soaring raptors overhead, and possibilities include the Bateleur Eagle, Beaudouin’s Snake Eagle, Lanner Falcon, Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture, European Griffon Vulture, and Grey Kestrel. We continue our journey, stopping at various birding areas to arrive in late afternoon at Kartong Stala Lodge for overnight and dinner.

DAY 14: MORNING AT GUNJUR KONOTO FOREST AND DEPARTURE TO THE AIRPORT
We’ll spend our final morning at Gunjur Konoto Forest, where we hope to find a good number of forest specialties such as the beautiful Western Bluebill, Green Hylia, rare Capuchin Babbler, Green Headed Sunbird, Orange Breasted Bush Shrike, Blue Spotted Wood Dove, African Pygmy Kingfisher, Green Turaco, Violet Turaco, African Pied Hornbill, African Thrush, Collared Sunbird, Yellow Bill, Yellow Breasted Apalis, Common Wattle Eye, and many others. We’ll finish the tour and drive to the airport for your flight back home.
