Kotu Creek and surrounds

Despite being closed to several hotels, the area is an absolute “must visit” for any visiting birder to the Gambia. Part of its appeal is the wide variety of habitats that can be easily visited during a day trip. These habitats include a mangrove lined Creek with tidal mudflats, Rice Fields and open woodland, which harbours a fine selection of waders and water birds including various species of Herons, Egrets, Sacred and Hadada Ibises. African Spoonbill, Spur winged Lapwing, and at least five different species of Kingfishers.

KOTU SEWAGE PONDS:
Attracts a superb mix of both migrant and resident waders and water birds- viewable at relatively close quarter, species suchas the African Jacana, Black Winged Stilt, Wood sandpiper. Squacco Heronintermediate Egret and Western Reef Heron as well as a good number of White Faced Whistling Duck and Grey Headed Gull.

FAJARA GOLF COURSE:
Lies just on the north of the Creek and contain a patchy scrubs and open woodland that host species such as African Silver bill, Blue Bellied Roller. Little Bee Eater. Swallow Tailed Bee Eater. Variable and Splendid Sunbirds, Double Spurred Francolin, Senegal Parrot, Fine Spotted Woodpecker, Red Necked Falcon, Pearl Spotted Owlet and many more
