Farasutu Forest
protects a small but outstanding pocket of lush gallery forest. The reserve is situated some 8km east of Brikama, and is home to a wide variety of much desired forest species, including Western Bluebill, African Wood Owl, Orange Cheeked Waxbill, Spotted Honey Guide, Grey Headed Bristle bill, African Pygmy Kingfisher, African Pied Hornbill, Green Headed Sunbird, Violet and Green Crested Turacos.
Birding on the forest margins and surrounding farmlands is often quite rewarding, with Black Trumped Waxbill, and Four Banded Sand Grouse seen regularly as well as Black Crowned Tcharga, Tree Pipit, Variable Sunbird, Splendid Sunbird, plus the occasional Western Bonelli Warbler, Black Shouldered Kite, and Red Necked Falcon, while nearly Pmela forest is a well known roosting site for the Grayish Eagle Owl as well as Long Tailed and Standard Winged Nightjars.
